AIA Continental Europe Membership Report

20 February 2007

Website organization remains a challenge and who does not love that!

Recent developments include the addition of “tags” to our news page (front page posts). Current tags include event, CES or conference. Each loads an index of posts labeled with that item. I’ve used 15 tags to date and have yet to use all the section tags.

The ability to comment on front-page posts is still available but little used — by the web editor, if no one else. While comments are at this time low maintenance they can become a “comment-spam” magnet and the comment-relay announcement list requires occasional attention. Should this feature be dropped with continued lack of use/feedback?

Work is being done under-the-hood to ease the creation and updating of pages, notably any changes to sponsors and links in the sidebars and navigation rows.

Sponsor logos are being added to the front page of the site. These will load randomly at the top of the right sidebar. The full sponsor list will remain at the lower part of the sidebar and all of the logos will appear on a corporate partner page, linked from the rotating logo. Confused? Wait then to see it in action. A volunteer is requested to create short descriptions for each partner to appear astride each logo. Probably not more than 50 words for each.)

It is my sincere hope to change the very nature of the member finder but I think this might be pushed back another year. Occasional searches for the best tools for this effort have yielded little satisfaction. What I hope for each member to have a member-editable page.

Efforts continue to organize the information already present, easing methods of finding that information and adding more to aid board and chapter members involved in making the chapter work — that should be everyone, right?
