History
Origins
The Continental Europe Chapter of the American Institute of Architects was founded in Paris in 1994. Achieving remarkable growth and vitality in its early years, the chapter continues to attract AIA members from Western and Eastern Europe, as well as the Middle East and North Africa.
AIA members from the United States with interests in Europe are also active in the Chapter. About half of our members are US citizens who reside and practice in Europe; the others are Europeans who earned professional qualifications in the US and then returned to Europe to practice.

Being a member of AIA Continental Europe brings you into contact with American architects working overseas and links you with other members of the AIA in the United States.

Spoonsoring the AIA Continental Europe chapter as a Corporate Partner links companies and products to a network of architects working in Europe and beyond.
Chapter administration
The Chapter is governed by a twelve member Board of Directors. Five board members are Chapter Officers: President, First Vice-president (President Elect), Vice-president, Secretary, and Treasurer. Chapter Officers must be full AIA members to be elegible to serve.
The Board has seven members who are elected as Regional Directors. The regions are France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Northern Europe, Soutehrn Europe and Eastern Europe.
