Architecture in Como

Description:

This small, two-day event is open to members and invited guests, who wish to experience Como from an architectural-historical point of view.

As a section event, we are planning a visit to the “ex-Casa del Fascio” by Giuseppe Terragni, and a guided visit of four monuments within the city’s historic center, including the Cathedral (XIV-XVII centuries). If the weather permits, a scenic boat ride is also being planned along the lake, enjoying elegant panoramic views of the natural and architectural setting.

Saturday, 13 May
12:00-14:00 Noon - Arrive in Como. Buffet lunch at “Loom Caffè”, located in “La Tessitura” Gallery and Shop, at the Mantero Silk Factory

08:15 Meet at Lake Como dock
08:30 Leave Como with private boat; destination: Villa Balbianello (Dosso di Lavedo).
08:30-09:15 General presentation of historic villas on the lake.
09:15-11:00 Architectural guide of Villa Balbianello and surrounding gardens.
11:00 Leave Villa Balbianello for Villa Erba with private boat.
11:30-12:30 Architectural Guide of Villa Erba.
12:30 Leave Villa Erba for Como
13:00 Arrive at Como, and short break.
13:30-15:00 Lunch with sponsor at “Ristorante Hotel Palace” (fixed rate of 33 euros per person — attendance optional)
15:00 End of program.
Cost: €35 for AIACE members, €50 for non-members. Registration excludes the following expenses: (1) Saturday lunch at Loom Café: ±€15,00/person, (2) Saturday dinner at Il Solito Posto Trattoria: €35,00 prix fixe/person; (3) Sunday villa entrance ticket: ±€11,00/person; (4) Hotel accommodations and travel to and from Como (1,2, and 3 are paid in situ by participants).
