Udine Travel

Plane

Three airports are near Udine: Trieste (Aereoporto di Ronchi dei Legionari), Treviso and Venice (Aereoporto Marco Polo).

The closest to Udine is Trieste (TRS). You can reach Udine Railway Station from the airport in one of the following ways:

The travel time from the airport to Udine is approximately 50 minutes.

More information are available from the Trieste Airport.

Low cost companies operating in Trieste: Ryanair

Also close to Udine is Treviso (TSF) but here you have first to reach Treviso Railway Station (bus shuttle service, travel time approx 20 minutes) and there take a train to Udine (trains every hour, travel time about 70 minutes but delays have to be expected).

Low cost companies operating in Treviso: Ryanair

If you land in Venice (VCE) you have first to reach Mestre Railway Station and there take a train to Udine. There are two well working shuttle services from the airport to Mestre (travel time about 30 minutes):

From Mestre to Udine there are trains every hour. Travel time is about 90 minutes, but delays are quite frequent.

More information is available from the Aereoporto Marco Polo and the Italian Railways.

Low cost companies operating in Venice: Volareweb, Easyjet

Train

You can reach Udine from Venezia or Trieste with “regional” (R or REG) or “interregional” (IR) trains, as well as from Vienna with Eurocity trains. Travel information is available from Italian Railways (Trenitalia). Take into account that if you come from the west, usually you have to change the train in Mestre and delays of about 15-20 minutes between Mestre and Udine are frequent. This is most important when you leave Udine.

Automobile

From Austria (Villach-Tarvisio border): follow highway A23 (Tarvisio-Udine) southward bound. Exit at Udine sud (about 100 km from the border).

From Venice: follow highway A4 (Venezia-Trieste) eastward bound till the intersection with highway A23 (that’s right after S. Giorgio di Nogaro exit, about 80 km from Venice). Follow A23 northward and exit at Udine sud (that’s the first exit, about 25 km from the intersection with A4).

From Trieste: follow highway A4 (Trieste-Venezia) westward bound till the intersection with highway A23 (that’s right after Palmanova exit, about 40 km from Trieste). Follow A23 northward and exit at Udine sud (that’s the first exit, about 25 km from the intersection with A4)

From Udine sud exit follow the indications to Udine-centro (city center).
