Architecture in Turin

Description

Following the opening of the AIA Continental Europe exposition at the Castello del Valentino in Turin (Friday, 15 June), this one-day Italy section event is open to all AIA Continental Europe members and invited guests who wish to visit a recently completed example of Torino contemporary architecture.

Included in the Saturday morning visit to the Institute of Biotechnology by architect Luciano Pia is a presentation of education facility design issues, technology and materials as well as a general discussion of design philosophy, function and aesthetics.

An additional visit is possible on Sunday, to the restoration site of one of Guarino Guarini’s works. Updates regarding this opportunity towards the section event will be posted on the web site as they arrive.

Continuing education credits for this program are being confirmed but are likely to include 2½-3 learning unit (LU) hours for Saturday and an additional 1½-2 LU hours should the Sunday schedule be included.

This weekend section event follows the opening of the AIA Continental Europe exhibit in Turin.

Saturday, 16 June

9:45 Meet at the Scuola di Biotecnologie located at Via Nizza, 52 in Turin’s Historic Center.
10:00-12:30 Architectural guide and technical design review with Arch. Luciano Pia.
13:00-15:00 Lunch offered by Impresa Rosso, General Contractor
15:00- 16:30 Presentation by Impresa Rosso, General Contractor. Remainder of afternoon free for visiting historic centre of Turin (general information will be provided to members before morning session).
19:30 Meet for Dinner to enjoy local cuisine

Sunday, 17 June (to be confirmed)

10:45 Meet at the Cappella della S. Sindone or Cupola di San Lorenzo
11:00-13:00 Restoration site guided visit with architect and safety coordinator
13:00 End of Section Program

Space is limited. Interested members are kindly asked to email before 4 May 2007, with confirmation of how many people wish to attend.

Cost for the one day program will be €20 (€30 with the Sunday addition) payable the day of the event in cash or euro check. The registration fee does not include Saturday Dinner at a local restaurant (expect € 30-35/person). Attendees are responsible for their own hotel and travel arrangements.
