France Section event spotlight on Ground Zero

A subject which appears regularly in the international building press, but which remains difficult for the international architectural community to understand, is the rebuilding process of the World Trade Center in New York.

It was agreed that this would be an ideal subject on which the AIA could collaborate with La Maison de l’Architecture (Md’A), the Paris headquarters of the professional organization of architects in the Paris Region. AIACE Members may recall that the Md’A hosted AIA Continental Europe for the opening cocktail of the November 2004 Chapter Conference in Paris. Read more→

Events > Paris Conference

It's Bastille Day and, naturally, minds wander to think about France, Paris and the AIA Continental Europe autumn conference.

Rest assured our conference organizers are hard at work in the Massif central, if not in an ancient volcanic lair, at least at their summer retreat. We have no update for the side-bar but the dates remain the same: 11-14 November.

We can offer no details at this time but we do know that the bulk of conference activities will occur on Friday and Saturday. The program will center on Paris rive gauche, a new urban plan and development upriver from the center of the city, on the Seine.

We have no details at this time about continuing education credits but we, the editors of this site (who have also visited the Rive gauche site), have no reason to believe that the conference will suffer from a shortage of learning opportunities).

AIACE > Gallery > Chartres

Isabel Meinecke, Int'l. Assoc. AIA, France Section Director, has been prolific in creating quality section events for our membership in France.

Isabel arranged a marvelous day in Chartres. First, a tour of the cathedral and the greatest stained glass in the world, followed by an ascent by spiral stair to various levels of the towers and then to the inside of the roof structure, led by an architectural historian and the "conservateur" of the cathedral (an architect), Mr Paul Trouilloud. Then on to two projects by Philippe Robert, Hon. FAIA, for which he was the guide. Well worth the price, which included a delightful lunch.
